Ted Gibson is an American hair stylist born on 15th November 1965 in Texas, USA. He rose to fame after appealing as a hair expert in in the American makeover reality television series, ‘What Not to Wear’ (2009 – 2013). He is also a regular contributor on The Today Show and Good Morning America.

He is one of the most sought after editorial, runway, and celebrity hair stylists. He has worked for celebrities such as Gabrielle Union, Lupita Nyong’o, Debra Messing, Angelina Jolie, Tessa Thompson, Rachel Brosnahan, Jessica Chastain, Anne Hathaway among others.

His work has been featured in publications such as Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar, Elle, Marie Claire, Vanity Fair, People Style Watch, W, and Allure and backstage at runway shows such as Chanel, Prada, Dolce & Gabbana.

In 2003 Ted Gibson and his partner Jason Backe opened a 2,500-square-foot salon in Manhattan’s Flatiron district. The salon offered hair styling to celebrities and New York socialites at premium prices.

In December 2016 after 13 years in service they announced that they were closing the salon.They last operating day was 21st December 2016.

In 2017 they opened Ted and Jason Backe opened their new salon in Los Angeles which is different from the one they ran in New York. Before the salon opened Gibson said that the salon would be intimate with only five or six chairs, as opposed to the 50 they previously had in New York.

Ted Gibson used to charge $950 for a haircut but in 2012 the prices were hiked to $1,200. Currently his rate is $1,650 per cut, while Backe’s is $400 for every 30 minutes he works on a client’s hair color.
