KITV4 Island News is excited to welcome back Rick Quan to our ohana. This award-winning, veteran broadcast journalist will be joining Mika Miyashima at the anchor desk for KITV4 Island News at 10pm.
For many of our viewers he is a familiar face, having worked at KITV for seven years as our Sports Anchor and Reporter. He moved to the San Francisco Bay area where he worked for KPIX-TV and KGO-TV.
“It is truly a dream come true to return to the Islands and work for my former station. Honolulu has changed a lot since I last worked here but the Spirit of Aloha remains strong. I look forward to seeing you all soon,” Rick said.
Rick has been honored with numerous awards including two regional Emmys and recognition from the Associated Press, the Peninsula Press Club and the Radio-TV News Directors Association. He was also voted favorite TV Anchorperson four times by readers of the Alameda Newspaper Group. During his first stint at KITV, he was named Hawaii Sportscaster of the Year by local sportscasters and sportswriters.
Rick may be best known for his work as a sportscaster but he’s also an award winning documentary producer. He has profiled a number of Asian American pioneers. His most recent subject was the late Ed Lee, the first Asian American Mayor of San Francisco. He also produced the “Art of Gaman”, a documentary which showcased the artwork of Japanese American World War II internees.
Rick has always been very active in the Asian American community and has worked with many non-profits including the Chinese Historical Society of America.
