Pete Gallivan Biography

Pete Gallivan is an American news anchor. He is a Daybreak co-anchor at WGRZ-TV in Buffalo, NY. In addition to his anchor responsibilities, Pete also produces a weekly feature called “Unknown Stories of WNY”, which highlights local history. Jennifer Stanonis is also a meteorologist at WGRZ-TV.

Pete’s career in broadcasting began in 1987 at a small, day-timer radio station in Brockport. He did sales, disc jockeyed, and ultimately became News Director at WASB. From Brockport, Pete’s career saw stops on local radio in Canandaigua, Warsaw, and Rochester. It was in Rochester where he discovered his passion for visual story-telling, as a reporter at WHEC-TV and later WROC-TV.

His reporting has won 2 NYS Emmys, a regional Edward R. Murrow Award and an Associated Press Award. He was also part of the Daybreak team that won an Emmy for best morning newscast.

As of his love life, Pete is married to his wife Sarah. Pete and his wife have raised three children, Brenna, Benjamin, and Hannah, along with several rescued greyhounds.

Why Is Pete Gallivan Back On Channel 2

The “Daybreak” co-anchor position alongside Melissa Holmes is now going to Pete Gallivan, who had that position alongside Jodi Johnston before John Beard replaced him in 2009 and has been a fill-in anchor during Beard’s vacations.

Gallivan, who left the station for a job in state government in 2013 only to return months later, has filled a variety of roles since he came back. He had been the “Daybreak” host in for 10 years until Beard replaced him in 2009. Beard is expected to leave the station next week after changing his mind a few times and extending his stay. Gallivan starts his “Daybreak” job the week of Jan. 15.
