Paula Francis is an American journalist. She was born in Queens, N.Y., grew up in a Chicago suburb and had her first job in broadcasting in Madison, Wisconsin, right after finishing college at the UW-Madison. She has done the news in Las Vegas since 1985. She has been chosen “Best TV Anchor in Las Vegas” by the readers of the Las Vegas Review-Journal more than 15 times through 2014 when the category was retired. She is a member of the KLAS-TV Hall of Fame, sharing the honor with George Knapp, Gary Waddell, Howard Hughes, Bob Bailey, and Jack Lehman, among others.

Francis, 65, recently took some time to look back on her first year of retirement, talk about the changing perception of the media and to look ahead at a possible future in politics The past year has been great for her actually. It was a really good time to retire from the news business.

It was such a contentious election that it really would have been upsetting to me to report on it. According to her, the best part of retirement is Its freedom from deadlines. She dedicated her life to journalism, and fake news is detrimental to journalism, and journalism is essential to democracy.
