The US portion of the firm was founded in 1881 in Chicago, by Adolf Kraus and Levy Mayer. The English portion of the firm, Rowe & Maw, was established in 1895 in London while Johnson Stokes & Master was formed in 1863 in Hong Kong.

Joseph Collins, former Mayer Brown partner, was found guilty in November 2012 of multiple conspiracy and fraud charges for his role in preparing Refco’s IPO. The law firm itself agreed to pay an undisclosed amount to settle the legal claims against him.

Also based upon the same sources,  The typical Mayer Brown Associate salary is $210,859. Associate salaries at the firm can range from $171,676 – $293,831.

In 2017, associates must have billed 2000 hours in firm development hours, in order to get a raise. To get the special bonus they must have acquired the annualized equivalent of 1900 client chargeable hours through the end of June. However, they can now make up those hours by the end of the year and get the money then.
