Mary Sweeney is an American feature film director,editor, writer, and producer. Over the years, Sweeney has had a long history of creative collaboration with filmmaker David Lynch, collaborating on the much acclaimed film titled Blue Velvet (1986). She edited the horror drama television series Twin Peaks Television in 1990. Additionally; she was also involved in the production of  Twin Peaks Fire Walk With Me (1992), Hotel Room, HBO, (1993), Lost Highway (1996), The Straight Story (2000) and Mulholland Drive (2001).

Over the years, the two film makers have collaborated on a myriad of projects which have been received with a positive response. Her works with David Lynch include:

Blue Velvet where she was assigned the role of an assistant editor; Wild at Heart where she was assigned the role of an assistant editor, Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me where she was assigned the role of an editor. The two also collaborated on the film titled ‘Hotel Room” as an editor; film Lost Highway as both a producer and an editor. In the film ”The Straight Story” she worked as a producer, writer and an editor. She also was involved as both a producer and editor for the film titled Mulholland Drive. Mary Sweeney Film Professor| Teaching

Sweeney is the Dino and Martha De Laurentiis Endowed Professor of film at USC, where she teaches Graduate Screenwriting Thesis. Additionally, Mrs. Sweeney is the Chair of the Board Board of Trustees of Film Independent, sponsor of the Spirit Awards and the Los Angeles Film Festival.

 Relationships

The producer was married to fellow film maker David Lynch on 10th May of 2006 however finalized the divorce on 12th February of 2007. The couple separated exactly a month later, according to papers filed in Los Angeles County Superior Court.
