Katie Lee (full name: Katherine Lee) is an American chef, television food critic and novelist born on 14th September 1981 in Huntington, West Virginia, U.S. She co-hosts ‘The Kitchen’ on Food Network and hosts ‘Beach Bites with Katie Lee’ on The Cooking Channel.

Katie attended Milton Elementary School, Milton Middle School and Cabell Midland High School. In 2003 she graduated from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio with a double major in English and journalism. While at the university she was a member of the Kappa Alpha Theta, spending a semester abroad in Florence, Italy at The British Institute.

Katie and Ryan first met while working. She siad, “Ryan had signed on to be a producer for my first season of Beach Bites, he introduced himself and told me we would be working together soon on Beach Bites, and all I remember thinking was, Wow, that guy is handsome.”

Months later they were travelling from one location to another for the show. While in Punta Mita, Mexico, the whole crew went for sunset cocktails on the beach. “One by one, they peeled off, until just the two of us were left, we talked for hours about our travels and how much we both loved food.”

Two years later Ryan proposed in Paris at La Réserve hotel ‘It was time to leave for dinner, and he said, ‘Do you have everything?’ I said yes, and he said, ‘No, I think you are missing one thing.’ He then pulled a vintage 1940s ring from Fred Leighton out of his pocket and got down on one knee. We toasted that night with roast chicken and duck fat potatoes.”

Billy Joel is the former husband of Katie. They met at The Peninsula hotel, rooftop bar while visiting New York City for a weekend. On 2nd October 2004, after dating for a year, they got married at Billy’s home in Oyster Bay, Long Island with Alexa Ray Joel, Billy’s daughter from a previous marriage to Christie Brinkley serving as the maid of honour.

They separated in June 2009 after nearly five years of marriage.

Katie began her career by working in several restaurants and wine stores. In 2003, Lee served as the house fishmonger for the then newly opened Jeff and Eddy’s Restaurant. In 2005, together with Aleishall Girard they created OliveAndPeach.com, a foodie website. In September 2006 the site ceased updating.

Katie hosted the first season of Bravo’s Top Chef in 2006 but was later replaced by Padma Lakshmi after negative critical reception. In 2010 she was a guest judge on Top Chef All Stars, Episode 2 (“Night at the Museum”).

Katie Lee Novel – Groundswell

In 2011, she released her first novel, Groundswell. The novel tells the story of Emma, a small-town girl with big dreams whose marriage to a celebrity catapults her into the out-of-this-world lifestyle of the rich and famous. Emma was an aspiring screenwriter but she suffered from betrayal when her husband cheats on her with her best friend. She emerges stronger as she finds healing – and love – through surfing.

“I know people want to read the book and think that it’s about my life, but it is totally fiction; I don’t look at it as being autobiographical at all. Of course I drew experiences from my own life and the lives of my friends – I mean, some of the stuff that’s in there are things you just can’t make up – but the story of Emma is all her own. Writing this book takes me back to why I loved reading so much as a kid; while I was writing this book, for just a few hours a day, I got to go into someone else’s world and live someone else’s life.” Katie Lee said about the book.
