Jon Karroll is a longtime television anchor with KRDO in Colorado Springs. he reported that he is leaving the news desk. He made the announcement on his Facebook page.
“After 30+ years of radio and TV news I’m hanging up my microphone,” Karroll wrote on Facebook. “I’m NOT retiring.”He came to NewsChannel 13 in September of 1993 as the main evening news anchor and in that time have seen the station grow into a strong news presence in Southern Colorado.
As of 2019, he is a co-anchor “Good Morning Colorado” and NewsChannel 13 at Noon. He says that It is an exciting job, but the real thrill comes when we get a chance to cover breaking news, bringing our viewers news stories as they are actually happening.
He certainly enjoyed many highlights in his broadcasting career. One of his’s greatest thrills was getting to meet and interview the late ABC news anchor Peter Jennings, not once, but twice! Mr. Jennings was always approachable and accommodating during our insightful interviews.
Jon’s passion for aviation has been fulfilled by several exciting airplane stories, most notably a flight aboard a world war two B-17 bomber from Denver to Colorado Springs.
Producing special reports has taken Karroll deep inside Cheyenne Mountain for an up-close look at NORAD and onboard a jet carrying federal prisoners for a series about the real “Con Air.”

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Jon Karroll is moving on from KRDO NewsChannel 13, and while it’s sad to think of Good Morning Colorado airing next week without him, it’s been nothing but smiles in the newsroom Friday as we remember his legacy.
Karroll has spent 25 years with KRDO — that’s more than two decades of keeping us in stitches with his banter and informing us directly when the big stories hit.
But Karroll’s not moving from Colorado Springs, so there’s a good chance you’ll run into him out and about in town.
“I’m staying in Colorado Springs, taking a position as Development and Communications Manager with Special Kids Special Families,” Karroll said. “This local non-profit works to improve the lives of children and adults with disabilities and their families. This did not come about overnight.
I’ve been thinking about changing careers for several years with the goal of joining an organization that makes a difference in peoples’ lives. I feel this position will be a perfect fit for me.”
