Joe Smith Warriors | Joe Smith Golden State Warriors

Smith went to Maury High School and played at the University of Maryland. In the 1995 NBA draft, Smith was chosen by the Golden State Warriors as the primary generally pick, before individual power advances Kevin Garnett, Antonio McDyess, and Rasheed Wallace, just as watchman Jerry Stackhouse.

Smith was named to the NBA All-Rookie First Team for the 1995–96 season and completed third in the Rookie of the Year casting a ballot to Damon Stoudamire and Arvydas Sabonis.

Joe would play over two years for the Warriors before being exchanged to the Philadelphia 76ers with Brian Shaw for Clarence Weatherspoon and Jim Jackson halfway through the 1997–98 season.

The exchange was designed by Golden State as Smith had clarified his longing to come back toward the east coast, and he was moving toward free office (part of the way through the last year of his 3-year new kid on the block contract). Smith’s measurements declined following the exchange, and never completely recouped.
