Jake Anderson Biography
Jake Anderson born Jacob Venn Martin Anderson is an American fishing Captain aboard the fishing vessel Saga. He has been featured in the Discovery Channel documentary television series Deadliest Catch since 2007.
Being a fourth generation fisherman, he has always lived close to the sea. He was born in Forks, Washington and grew up in the fishing town of Anacortes, Washington. He was surrounded by generations of fishermen. After being raised in this rich environment, he took to the sea at an early age with his uncle Brian Mavar.
At only 17, he was fishing salmon off Bristol Bay in Alaska. When 20, he was on a trawler processor and began pot fishing at 25. One year later, he became a greenhorn on the Fishing Vessel Northwestern. He worked there for the next six years. His hard work and commitment carried him from greenhorn to full-share deckhand to relief deck boss, under the then Captain Sig Hansen. Although he has experienced his fair-share of trials, he has also worked to overcome them. Jake has matured and aged dramatically,since his sister’s sudden death and his father’s murder.
In 2010 he beat addiction , and that same year he obtained his USCG Mate 1600-ton fishing license and Master 100-ton license. He had a goal of becoming captain of his own ship. He was offered a co-captaining position with F/V Kiska Sea in 2013. Problems with the crew and mishandling by management forced him to return to the Northwestern.
He got his break in 2015, when he was offered the captain’s chair on F/V Saga. This was just two days after the birth of his first son, Aiden. He took command of the wheelhouse of the Saga and led the crew through a challenging but successful Opie season. His leadership continues to bloom as he transforms the Saga into a crab-killing machine that cements his place amongst the greats.

His sister, Chelsea Dawn Anderson, had unexpectedly died during the season five episode “Bitter Tears”. He later learnt that his father, Keith Anderson, was mysteriously missing. He was then presumed dead after his truck was found abandoned in rural Washington during the season six episode “Blown Off Course”. He has been married to Jenna Anderson since May 12 2012. Together they have two children. They live together in Seattle, Washington.
He is an avid skateboarder and who is sponsored by the American footwear and clothing company DVS Shoes. He also has a signature skateboard shoe released through the company.
In an interview with Dr. Drew Pinsky, he revealed that he is a recovering alcoholic and his addiction left him homeless for two years.
