Irving Charles Krauthammer was an American political columnist. He won the Pulitzer Prize in 1987 for his column in The Washington Post which appeared in more than 400 newspapers worldwide. He was a FOX News commentator, appearing nightly on FOX’s evening news program, Special Report with Bret Baier.
Detailed Charles Krauthammer Biography
He went to Herziliah High School and later enrolled at McGill University in Montreal, graduating in 1970 with first-class honors in economics and political science. In McGill University is where he became vocal about his political views. He studied as a Commonwealth Scholar in politics at Balliol College, Oxford in 1971, before coming back to the United States to attend medical school at Harvard.
Charles was injured in a diving board accident when he was in his first year of medical school sustaining injuries that left him paralyzed from the waist down. He was hospitalized for 14 months thus remaining with his Harvard Medical School class during his hospitalization, graduating in 1975.
Krauthammer relocated to Washington, D.C. in 1978, to direct planning in psychiatric research under the Carter administration. He began providing articles about politics to The New Republic and, in 1980, served as a speechwriter to Vice President Walter Mondale. Krauthammer later joined the New Republic as an editor and writer in 1980 and has written essays for Time and the Weekly Standard. He was named among the top 50 most influential journalists in the national press corps by Washington magazine.

Krauthammer had surgery to remove a cancerous tumor from his abdomen in August 2017. The procedure was thought to be successful until June 8th, 2018 when he announced that his cancer had returned. The doctors had given him weeks to live and on June 21st which was thirteen days later, he died of small intestine cancer in an Atlanta, Georgia hospital at 68 years old.
