Azita Ghanizada is an Afghan American actress, advocate and founder of MENA Arts Advocacy Coalition born on 17th November 1979 in Kabul, Afghanistan. She has a multi-ethnic appearance that has enabled her to play Indian, Arabic, Iranian, Mediterranean and the American girl next door. She is popular for her role as Chiara in the film ‘A Kiss on the Nose’ which earned her a nomination as best actress.
Azita Ghanizada was raised in a conservative multicultural home and was forbidden to pursue her dreams of becoming an actress until she finished her studies. After graduating with a B.A. in English and Journalism from Virginia Tech she moved to Los Angeles to pursue a career in acting.

Azita Ghanizada Career
Azita was inspired to become an actress by her mother’s love for films. She learned to speak English from watching American tTV. She relocated to Los Angeles, California and began her on-camera career by working in TV commercials and guest starring on popular television shows.
Due to her mixed ethnic appearance she has had roles as Indian, Arabic, Iranian, Mediterranean and the American character. A few of her notable television guest-starring roles include How I Met Your Mother, Veronica Mars, Castle, Bones, Psych, Entourage, Ghost Whisperer, The Mentalist and Up All Night.
Azita Ghanizada – MENA Arts Advocacy Coalition, MAAC
In 2017, Azita founded the MENA Arts Advocacy Coalition, MAAC and began to advocate on behalf of Middle Eastern North African (MENA) performers. Together with, Assaf Cohen, MAAC founding member, they spent two years lobbying SAG-AFTRA to include Middle Eastern North African (MENA) as its own diverse category in the producers theatrical contracts.
Still in 2017, their advocacy work proved successful and for the first time in 37 years, a new diversity category was introduced to the SAG-AFTRA – AMPTP contracts. She actively speaks on representation and inclusion issues in the media, on social media, in business environments and on industry panels.
MAAC presented the first ever study on MENA performers on Prime Time TV in 2018.
