Alissa Carlson is an American meteorologist. She is currently the Chief Meteorologist at KGET-TV. She moved to Bakersfield in 2007. Carlson has established herself as not only as of the person to watch for an accurate and understandable forecast but as a community servant.
Alissa grew up on a farm in northwest Illinois. That sparked an interest in weather at an early age. She would watch severe storms with her Dad, who loves the weather!

While in high school Alissa decided to follow in her mom’s footsteps. She became a broadcast journalist. She landed a part-time radio DJ job on a local AM station and was hooked. Carlson worked in her hometown television market, known as the Quad Cities, before moving on to jobs in Greenville, North Carolina and Jacksonville, Florida.
Carlson is the Chief Meteorologist at KGET-TV. She moved to Bakersfield in 2007 and has established herself. As not only as a person to watch for an accurate and understandable forecast but as a community servant. She was part of California State University-Bakersfield’s commencement ceremonies in 2014 and 2015.
Alissa announced the names of the graduates. Carlson’s dedication to Bakersfield earned her the Nomination for Humanitarian of the Year in 2018 by the Beautiful Bakersfield Awards. She was also Mrs. Bakersfield 2017 and named Mrs. California in 2018.
Alissa holds the prestigious Seal of Approval from the National Weather Association. In 2010, she won the Mark Twain Award from the Associated Press for Best Weathercast. She also won Best Weathercast in Bakersfield in 2009 & 2011 from the Kern Press Club.
From 2014-2018, Alissa won 4 Emmy’s for her whether as part of the KGET News at 5 pm newscast.
Alissa is very involved in the community, taking an active role in numerous charity events as an emcee. She has helped raise money and donations for organizations such as the SPCA, Gleaners, Volunteer Center, Children’s Miracle Network, and the Bakersfield Homeless Center, to name a few.
In February 2008, Alissa was chosen for the cover of Bakersfield Magazine. She was selected as a Lady in Red by the American Heart Association, as part of its “Go Red For Women” campaign. Mrs. Carlson is the Circle of Red Chairman with the American Heart Association, raising $30,000 on her own from 2017-2018.
Carlson regularly attends St. Francis Catholic Church. She served as a lector at St. Phillip’s Catholic Church for 5 years.

She was diagnosed with a leaky heart valve in July 2014. The doctor eventually told her it would have to be replaced. They didn’t know when. It would wear out and she would have to have replacement surgery.
Suddenly she found a new passion for a cause she had championed for years as an advocate for the American Heart Association equally important chair of the Circle of Red. Moreover, Alissa and her husband Neil went on to adopt an even healthier lifestyle and to have a baby.
But when her baby Aris was 9 months old, Alissa had more chest pains and found herself back in a hospital gown for more tests. It came back, Not only that the valve has started to repair itself but also stem cells from her baby had started to heal her heart.
Now, as she chases her 3-year-old heart hero, In addition, Alissa is living out her heart-healthy lifestyle for all to see through social media and her newfound platform as Mrs. California. Not to mention heart disease is the No. 1 killer. It isn’t cancer, it’s heart disease, she said.

Carlson was crowned Mrs. California in Palm Springs Saturday and will go on to compete for the title of Mrs. America in August. The Mrs. America pageant has been celebrating the uniqueness of the married woman, her family, and community, for the past 39 years, according to organizers.
Mrs. Carlson is now slated to compete with 50 other representatives, from every state and Washington, D.C., August 25 at the Westgate Resort and Casino in Las Vegas. The winner of August’s competition will be crowned Mrs. America by 2017’s winner, Mekayla Eppers.
The Mrs. America pageant began in 1979, honoring “the most poised, versatile, articulate equally important beautiful married women” from across the country, organizers said.
